Anyone ever play Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened? It came out a few years ago, and had a decent Lovecraftian plot.

Haha, yes, I should watch what I say or I may meet the same end Alhazred did, being devoured in broad daylight while I walked about campus or something.

The world will see, decades from now, that Lovecraft will be hailed alongside the likes of Poe, Hawthorne, Melville and all other iconic American authors, as a writer, likewise, worthy of extensive study. It is as Wittgenstein said (Melville having suffered the worst of this as it took until the 1900's for Moby Dick to be even really noticed), "If a man is simply ahead of his time, it will catch him up one day."

Yes, that also intrigued me. It adds an even higher element of strangeness to the story. Consequently, it seems a test for the creators to produce an answer, to why he appears in many people's dreams, that is equally mystifying.

Hmm, interesting theory, maybe some agenda for a new-age cold war?

Yes, it is well-known in organized crime rings that Ice Worms were used to dispose of Jimmy Hoffa.

I gotta say though, I guess it would make a cool story idea, especially in the Lovecraftian sense. You know, a Call of Cthulhu type deal where a man finds some old notes that his grandfather, a psychologist, left behind after death. These notes contain information on various patients, but all claim to have seen the same man in their dreams. Over the years, he had been compiling these similar cases, and maybe, like CoC, it could be like a detective story with the main character discovering his grandfather had been piecing together similarities between each case, like the man frequently wearing some article of clothing or using the same phrase.
