1  Mythos Matters / Cthulhu Entertainment & Gaming / Arkham Horror, Mansion of Madness etc.. on: March 18, 2011, 02:10:19 PM
So i just returned home from PAX East 2011 , of which I spent the entire Saturday board gaming and more specifically 7 hours playing 'Arkham Horror' with 'Dunwich horror expansion'. This and other Lovecraft myth inspired games are published by Fantasy Flights Games games. Well thanks to the great refresher course, that is the podcast, I could easily make some quick fun references during game play( within reason so as to not be a smarty-pants).
The point I was going to ask here was, and pardon me if this seems obvious, but would this gaming company be a good sponsor/advertiser for the show? I almost wanted to hand out cards for the show at the booth to folks who were perusing the Lovecraft based games etc. I kept thinking that would be a great 2 way street.
2  Mythos Matters / Cthulhu Entertainment & Gaming / Re: Guillermo del Toro, At the Mountains of Madness on: March 18, 2011, 01:42:57 PM
It drives me mad that the Hollywood studios can't make a film without it being a 'tent-pole' massive endeavor with exactly x amount of mass appeal, x amount of 3D potential and x amount of guaranteed merchandising. Ahtzib made these same points in his blog, (thumbs-up btw!) but i just want to re-iterate the point because we often forget how some of the best films of all are just a shoe-string budget, some creative minds and a desire to tell the story. Though I am not saying a little CGI wont help:)
3  Mythos Matters / Cthulhu Entertainment & Gaming / Relicradio.com -'the Horror' on: February 28, 2011, 08:56:54 PM
I don't know if anyone else has mentioned this podcast before, but it is another staple for me.
http://relicradio.com/shows/thehorror
This is a bi-weekly podcast that features a great collection of horror based radio dramas from the golden age of radio. They even have a few radio adaptions of lovecraft stories, though they tend to be severely tweaked for the time period and the audience of the era.
4  General Category / General Discussion / Day trip Photography of 'Lovecraft Country'.. on: February 28, 2011, 08:42:33 PM
I currently live in central Massachusetts and have also lived all over Mass, from east to west. I would like to think, though these could be famous last words, I know a lot of the more rural back areas fairly well and plan to do a couple day trips come spring in search of Lovecraft Mythos inspired areas.  Very often, especially early spring/late fall, before the vibrant greenery, in that time when things still looks more gray and ominous i find myself wishing I had my camera when i am driving around the back roads.  So many scenes jump out at me as being that look that is so often conveyed by Lovecraft, that I thought I should try to grab some images.  I will probably fall short on giving over that sense with just a snapshot but I figured i wanted to give it a go. I have a semi-pro digital photography set up, but i will be keeping it simple and the images without manipulation (I really want to avoid any cheese or ghost hunter looking nonsense).

I was wondering if anyone here would that lives locally would like to go as well, maybe make it a day trip with the Podcast playing over the radio in the car. ( I am safe, I assure you, besides i am not ready for human testing yet.)
Even if it is just me that goes, is there any particular spots that anyone here would love to see pictures of? Some place you always wanted to see from the literature?

Edit:
Forgot to mention, that if anyone on the board is planning a trip to this area to do sort of a Lovecraft tour, I can let you know here on the forums of some 'off the beaten path' places that will get you away from the touristy areas if you have a car.

Hello Folks,
Long time listener, since almost the start, however this is my first time getting on to the forums.  I am horrid at any sort of textual socialization, so forums and the like are something I have never jumped into, despite my being in front of a computer 10 hours a day. I had made a couple post a long while back on the original forums under the name 'not so deep one'.
I am actually a resident of Lovecraft country including Wilbraham, Massachusetts which was mentioned in the podcast for the Dunwich Horror. I, now reside only 20 min from there, still in Central Mass.  I am actually putting together a personal Photography project of some of the more 'Lovecraftian looking areas' I know of ,nearby, as a just a fun reference point.
