Not directly Lovecraftian I know but a big formative influence on a generation of UK horror fans.....RIP

7  General Category / Episode Discussion / Re: Episode 146--148 – "The Were-Wolf" on: March 08, 2013, 09:08:00 AM
Re the Christ / sacrifice theme at the end it struck me Christian hadn't sacrificed himself just for his brothers sins, but to save his whole community. The young kid and old lady had already gone....I'm guessing the rest would follow if the werewolf wasn't killed

Films - don't think The Wolfman 2010 remake has been mentioned yet, Benicio Del Toro and Anthony Hopkins put in a good turn and it's all good gory fun

Don't know if anyone else has seen this yet, but it's well worth a look.....

Something crashes into the sea off the coast of a small Irish fishing town...involves lots of tentacles, alcohol and an impressive array of improvised weapons.  Similar in tone to  Tremors, lots of fine and some nice monsters. Given how good CGI is these days it's a shame not see a "proper" HPL adaptation...but in the meantime films like this are good fun

Maybe it's because I just saw the Hobbit, but for some reason all I could picture listening to this was Gollum wearing the ring

Saw the trailer when we went to see The Hobbit on Sunday. At first I thought "wow!" - underwater alien beings awakening! By the end of the trailer I thought "meh" mechwars vs disappointing

Cockney rhyming slang, could be so.

we never had many fawns in the east end    Grin

Got to admit I've been struggling with this story, I've found it hard to keep tabs on the plot and found the tangents (smurfs etc) distracting
13  Mythos Matters / Cthulhu Entertainment & Gaming / Pontypool on: October 10, 2012, 10:11:12 AM
Anyone else seen this movie? Saw it on a recommended list of HPL influenced films, watched it last night and enjoyed it. Definitely had King in Yellow tones for me. My wife said "oh no, not another zombie movie" then sat and watched the whole thing  Grin    Not a perfect film, but a good attempt at something a little different

Hope "Dark Cults" the card game is included too - was a nice mix of game and story telling
15  Mythos Matters / Lovecraft Literary Talk / Re: What scares you? Discussing types of horror in fiction on: September 10, 2012, 09:01:46 AM
There was a short story I read in a collection some years back - can't remember the author! A guy undergoes an autopsy while conscious, though he appears dead. The thought of scalpels and bone saws...... Shocked
