Tall Beaver = Top Hat.  Beaver skin was used to make hats.

Further to the Beaver answer, Beaver fur is still used in the best quality Fedora and top hats. The fur is removed from the skin and felted, then pressed and steamed into hat shapes.
    A tall Beaver is probably referring to a Top Hat. Beaver fur hats are incredibly hard wearing and water resistant.
   Yes.....I'm a hat freak! Can't afford a good beaver though  Grin
