Anyone know someone with a good Professor Armitage-type voice (elderly, New England, scholarly) One who can record himself and wants to do some (volunteer) voice acting? Yup - that's my next big Lovecraft project. Send them my way!

Sorry, JulieH, I would volunteer for this roll, but, unfortunately, I don't think I can maintain a New England accent long enough (and convincingly enough) to actually make it believable. That and my "old man" impression sounds kind of creepy. Bob

I'd do it, but my organs of speech are not like those of your species.

Sorry - My brother will be playing Wilbur. I've know since he was born that there was something wrong with him.... I think he plans to belch all his lines. "Sound producing equipment unlike human kind". LOL This will either be really cool or complete crap... YAY!

I've got a couple of possibilities, but most guys seem to be comfortable with either "old" OR "New England" and Armitage really NEEDS to be both, dang it.
But i will have to decide on someone.

Any way of using some kind of audio trick to "age" the voice of a younger reader?

Nope. At least nothing I have access to.
And it's a HUGE role. Henry Armitage, the one archetypical "hero" in all of Lovecraft. (Okay, maybe that's overstating it, but he sets forth, with his trusty companions, knowing more or less the monster they will face, armed with magic, and actually defeats the adversary - and he's freaking 73 years old!!)
Not to mention people acting "old" are often not as convincing as they think they are. I went looking for acting groups in New England, to try and find someone, but elderly actors aren't that common, it seems. Grr... I'll have to settle soon, since I'm recording the townsfolk next weekend.

...most guys seem to be comfortable with either "old" OR "New England" and Armitage really NEEDS to be both, dang it. Easy. Find a young guy who can do a New England accent, then break his spirit and ruin his life so that he ages overnight.

I have the New England accent as my natural speech pattern. I don't desire to be aged overnight though. 31 is old enough.
