"Washington state newscaster" accent is actually a variation of Missourian, where the Oregon Trail began.

I need to hear more of Armitage to pass a decent judgement. [begin nitpick] I thought I heard at least one more "r" in there than there might have been. [/end nitpick]

Well, it sounds more authentic than BBC's AtMoM because of the American accents, the young fellow reading "Nor is it to be thought" aspirates his consonants a little too hard for my taste (but so what) and sounds more like a man from Forks, Washington, than Dunwich, Mass, Smiley and Dr. Armitage sounds a little like he's reading for a daytime soap like General Hospital, BUT I LIKE IT. And it sounds more promising than Dark Adventure's version, but that might be comparing ginkgo plums with durian fruit or something (apples and oranges)... Maybe Dunwich really is more like Tenino or East Yelm in Washington state than it is similar to Arkham or Innsmouth Smiley

The intro music is a little too I don't know exactly, I would've preferred the Dark Shadows theme, or even some ditzy instrumental music from the 30s. Matters of taste, really, PLEASE CARRY ON.

First - keep in mind I'm working entirely with volunteers, so to a certain degree I have to take what I can get (though Armitage is really a gentleman from new England, so I will defer to him for his choice of "R"s - in fact he is even an elderly professor).

...And he's the only real accent I have, so watch out when you hear the rest of us!!!  (It has been a super chore keeping my Dunwich townsfolk on accent - not an easy one, I'll tell you!!!)
Smiley
As to the voice of the Necronomicon - I actually chose to stay away from any accent, specifically, since it would arguably be Arabic, or Latin, or Olde Englishe or something else equally awkward.  I wanted to let the words carry it without any distractions.

With the music, I wanted to establish immediately that this is going to be presented in a cinematic style, and a big sweeping theme gives it that feel.

Now you know how my twisted little mind works...
AND... It progresses apace.

Julieh,

First, thank you for taking my seemingly snide comments in the spirit in which they were offered, as constructive criticism, based on a very limited sample of audio.

That said, the Voice of the Necronomicon isn't neutral and isn't "NW newscaster ex Missouri" but works for me as a NW native, it sounds like everyday neutral speech TO ME but won't to others.

Second: he voice of Dr. Armitage is very good. Can you tell us, without revealing his still hidden IRL identity, of what subject he is a professor? I am extremely curious.

Drama, I believe.  but I could be confused, since early next year I have a pair of British lecturers in drama in my Grand Guignol episode (the two gentlemen who, in fact, literally wrote the books on Grand Guignol - more on that later Wink

What part of New England is he from? There are a few different accents around here.

I've gotta say, JulieH, that I am really looking forward to listening to this new project. I like the voice, generally speaking, with the possible exception of Glen Halstrum. And that is not because I don't like his voice (which I do) or that I don't like his voice acting (which again, I do) but more that he has always sounded large and brawny to me, and that does not strike me as a professorlly kind of voice. But that having been said, I remember one of the prof's being the youngin' of the group who brought a big-ass gun with him, so if that is Mr. Halstrum's character, then I can certainly see it. It just kind of struck me a bit discordantly when I heard it.

Other than that, I'll be lining up to get a copy of this. Good show, and please keep up the good work. Oh, and I like the idea of the Necronomicon being read in an arabic voice, but yeah, I think you are right about the accent getting in the way of the meaning of the texts.

Other fine accent possibilities for the Necronomicon quote:

Southern US
Australian
Dick Van Dyke's cockney accent from Mary Poppins
Jamaican
Pirate

GU - LOL - yeah, the possibilities are endless, so I defaulted to something that sounds very neutral to me.
Smiley
BOB - Glen sounds very professorial to me in this.  Funny how voices convey different things to different people.  Maybe we can win you over...  [Dr. Morgan is the gun-toting fellow, and that's our third member, Lothar Tuppan]

Well, I have the first episode all roughed together and will fine tune for the rest of the week.  It's the easiest to assemble, being a bit talky (backstory - what a harsh mistress).  When i get to Dunwich itslef, that's when the challenge begins.

Don't misunderstand me here, JulieH, he is a good actor and I do like his work, I think it was more that I had the stereotypical professor voice in mind for Lovecraft's faculty: the kind of reedy but resonant voice of an older man used to lecturing and convincing crowds with his voice. So no disrespect meant to Mr. Halstrum at all. Of course he still sounds like a big, broad guy to me. Wink I don't think that is ever going to go away until I see an actual picture of the cast, and I would prefer to let the voices speak for themselves. No pun intended.

As a side note, "Professor Warren Rice" is the source of "Warren" (also played by Glen) in the Lovecraft 5...

Don't know if I'll do anything similar with the other fellows, though...

"Pirate" made me laugh. A heavy Glaswegian reading might be good, to get the primal immediacy thing in there if the "Turanian" language bits are quoted.
