The hockey stick is a reference to the Sci-Fi Channel replacing Harry Dresden's staff with a hockey stick when they adapted the books for TV. The idea being, I assume, that the public would be more comfortable with a magician if he used mundane items as the typical wizardly trappings, thus letting him blend in more with "normal" people. It was little changes to many, MANY details like that that to my mind ended up completely killing the mood. So to have replaced the bug sprayer full of the powder of ibn Ghazi in lieu of a hockey stick would be tantamount to what happened in the DF series. Bob |
