I think Prometheus looks killer, can't wait to see it.
I love Ridley Scott's movies, you almost cannot go wrong with any of them.
he captures fear better than almost any other director.
and I understood the original story to be that Ash was programmed by the company to be on the lookout for any bio-orgs and this just happened to be the ones they ran into, and they fit all the specs for what the company wanted Ash to secure in terms of a specimen. the ship was awakened, not by Ash, but by the distress call, remember. so no one knew what kind of "alien" they might find, just that the company and Ash and the ship's programming were on high alert for any such opportunities and this was what they found.
such a neat concept.

So why is it called Prometheus? Does an alien steal fire from the gods? Does a person steal fire from the aliens? Do the aliens even have fire? Does someone get chained to a rock so an alien can eat their liver?
Actually, that last one is probably pretty close.

From what I understand, the premise plays with the idea of the astronauts in the movie discovering something of our past on Earth. That's probably where the title comes from. And apparently, the xenomorphs play a very small role, if any, in this one, as the movie deals mainly with the Space Jockey aliens.

Huh. Turns out that if you type "who is that guy from" into Google, the first suggested search is "who is that guy from Ancient Aliens." Anyway, turns out his name is Giorgio Tsoukalos and he is crazy. He is, as you might gather, a proponent of the "ancient astronaut" theories of Erich von Däniken. He publishes a magazine about it and appears on shows like Ancient Aliens on the History Channel as an expert (and "consulting producer," which suggests to me that he's on the show because he paid for it), although his credentials seem to be limited to "a degree in sports information and communication" and having the kind of crazy hair appropriate to discussions of aliens building Stonehenge. |
