Any thoughts? Particularly regarding how the original Alien has always been loosely described as Lovecraftian.

Huh, I want to see more trailers of that before I get too excited, but yeah, I'm intrigued.

I would line up right now if I thought it would guarantee me a seat at show time Smiley

I'm really pleased that this movie is definitely a prequel, but is not being marketed as such.  There really are some unanswered questions in the Alien series that the later "sequels" definitely failed to deliver on.  The biggest question is how Weyland-Yutani ("the Company") knew enough about the aliens to want them as bio-weapons, and if anyone says anything about the Alien vs. Predator movies, Jesse Ventura will kick down your door and eat your eyes.

Jesse Ventura just got beaten up by some lunatic. Word is, "they" are sending him a message not to run as VP or P in 2012. The man who did the assault has deep neo-connexions.

I def remember Alien and all the hype in Starlog about Geiger's designs, and was glad Scott did Dick's Do Androids Dream in a nice darkling way as well.

How did the corporation know about the alien brood? Obviously an earlier ship responded to the beacon and was eaten, probably "live" on televisiophone. My question has always been, if "In space no one can hear you scream," then why did they make the alien scream when the girl with the low-hanging underwear flushed him into space?

I'll have to check that youtube out later, thanks for the link.

Well, it is explained in "Aliens" that the corporation knew about the xenomorphs because the Nestromo (the original ship) was theirs and when Ripley is revived, her logs are retrieved as well as her testimony. They then pigeon-hole her to keep the information from leaking out and send in a team of the colonists on that planet to check out her story. When the colonists find the eggs and shit gets real, the corporation is there to receive all of the distress calls and medical data transmitted from the colony in the first place. They know that the colony is a loss already, and only send the marines in so that their agent has protection while he retrieves a viable biological sample for them. They are already interested in the xenomorphs as weapons based on the Nestromo's logs, Ripley's testimony, and the data sent to them from the colony. In fact, if I am not mistaken (and I could well be) the original android crewman that Ripley knew had already transmitted data about eh xenomorph back to the corporation in "Alien" and they were interested even then.

Was that an upside down Sigourney Weaver I saw there? I paused it but I couldn't get a positive ID. And honestly, it wouldn't make a lot of sense to have her 30 years older in the prequel....

I dislike how clean it all looks. Alien was a dirty, grimey, sci-fi film but this one has that sheen of dust free perfection about it. Don't get me wrong though, I'm definitely going to see it.

I'm excited for this film, looks cool! I like all the movies in the Aliens franchise (not counting AvP, which I haven't seen). I heard a rumor that Prometheus is planned to be the 1st in a new trilogy? Anybody else heard anything more on that?

I kind of doubt that Scott would be on board for that, myself. And without Scott at the helm (and based on my assumption that Prometheus will be so phenomenonal that a trilogy could be okayed) I would hope not. Of course, that's just my own view point. But since we can thank Scott and O'Bannon (r.i.p.) for the Alien franchise (at least the best parts) it just seems that after all the mucking about with all this potential, I wouldn't want to see it swerve back into awesome land only to see it hijacked back by Hollywoodville and turned back into crap.

It's worth noting here that Scott is apparently in the works to get a Bladerunner sequel/prequel going as well.

Bob

If I recall correctly, the Coorporation knew about planet LV-246 even before the Nostromo picked up the signal. Remember that Ash was pretty determined to get those samples on board without any consent from the officers.

I thought that was because of a standing order by the corporation in regards to alien life forms in general. BUt again, it has been a long time since I saw the first movie.

Bob

PS - It is worth noting here that the TV show ALF was named after tha main character, whose real name was Gordon Shumway, but was called ALF because A.L.F. was an acronym for "alien life form". That having been said, it seems really, REALLY wrong to call one of the xenomorphs from "Alien" an A.L.F.

It's been a while since I've seen it, but I'm pretty sure the corp knew. Ash was not acting in the best interest of the crew, that's for sure.
