Well, this might be unrelated, but I truly enjoyed the news item today where ESPN was accused of being an "institution" with a problem with racism for the headline "Chink in the Armor" (admittedly about an Asian-American athlete). Since when is ESPN an institution? And yeah, I've seen that fellow on 4chan a lot. He's internet famous.

He could just be insane. you don't need a drug habit to be insane. It helps, but it's not a necessity.

Basically, they should combine the genes of H.P. Lovecraft and H.R. Giger, make a tube baby and release it out in the world where it invades your nightmares.

Surprisingly, I can't get behind that idea. It's like this: I love the movie "Bladerunner" but would NEVER want to live in that world. Similarly, I love Lovecraft's writing, but would never want to have him loosed upon the world with the DNA of an insane German artist. Shocked I think I might have to check myself into Danvers if that ever happened.

In fact, if I am not mistaken (and I could well be) the original android crewman that Ripley knew had already transmitted data about eh xenomorph back to the corporation in "Alien" and they were interested even then.

Bob

If I recall correctly, the Coorporation knew about planet LV-246 even before the Nostromo picked up the signal. Remember that Ash was pretty determined to get those samples on board without any consent from the officers.

It's been a while since I've seen it, but I'm pretty sure the corp knew. Ash was not acting in the best interest of the crew, that's for sure.

The original 'Alien' is one of my all-time favourites!
It's strongly implied quite early on the company were sending Nostromo out to the planet to bring back samples but wanted to make it look like an accident. Don't forget Ash was a last minute replacement for the usual science officer who got pulled from the mission. I'm pretty sure Ash later spills the beans and reveals the plan was for the infected/face-hugged crew to go back into hyper-sleep and then be quarantined on their arrival back home.

The title Prometheus, when you watch the TED Talk-style trailer with Guy Pearce as Mr Weyland (if you haven't seen that go take a look, it's pretty good), seems to me to be a reference to the fall after humanity's massive pride in reaching out for what's beyond them. Titan and humans are combined and Weyland says "we are now the gods" as he prepares to send out a ship of godlike explorers in shiny new equipment (which was made by my buddies at FBFX in London!) to blaze a trail among the stars. It presumably all goes wrong when the xenomorphs start eating faces.

I suspect this is a tale of humanity's hubris. That and screaming alien death monsters.

Latest trailer:

Looks much less clean and shiny in this one. More like the original. And the female cast member who features quite heavily in this trailer looks a lot like Ripley from some angles.

Don't forget the Bladerunner "curse": every brand placed in the movie besides Coke has gone away since then.

Since Fukushima is still blowing up with at least four China-syndrome out of control reactions, I'm sure Giger has a future in our genes.

I think at this point it's fairly clear they're channelling Lovecraft, especially given the title of the film.

Clif High, the "web bot" guy who lives on South Bay Road in Olympia, said Alex Jones had a "rant" about Prometheus. I went and looked it up a little, until boredom was victorious. Alex Jones on his March 30 show did indeed mention it, but said it would be broadcast on his next "Nightly News" and that one of his people had "gone down the rabbit hole" on Prometheus. I consider this all pre-release publicity. Esoteric and paranormal and conspiracy internet radio thinks there's a BIG SECRET about Man's Origins in this Alien prequel. Opinion is divided on whether it's good for us or bad. Probably more Zachariah Sitchin "mythos" involving alien intervention in my junk. Junk DNA. You touch my junk, you're going to jail. Don't tase me, bro. Just sayin.

Wow, OldBook. I have to say that I never really wanted a reference to you junk in this thread. Of course, if you ever do meet a xenomorph, you may want to let him know that your junk is off limits.

Sorry, Bob. I was out of line. Just pretend I said "funk," and I'm wearing oversized sunglasses bedecked with rhinestones, and I', Bootsie Collins singing "Yer Moon Stoned" to the low rumbling of kettle-drums echoing across seas of bitumen. I'll try to be more careful in future.
