I've recenlty begun a new project: cataloging all of the dates listed in Lovecraft's core stories. I want to create an overall timeline illustrating the major events of the mythos tales. As such, I am leaving out all of the "pre-history" stuff like Sarnath and the like. I am also leaving out anything that happens in the dreamlands, though not the events that happen on the normal earth. So far, I have done "At the Mountains of Madness", "Beyond the Wall of Sleep", "The Call of Cthulhu", "The Colour out of Space", "Cool Air", and "Dagon".

Somewhere around "The Colour out of Space" it occurred to me that this may already have been done, so I thought I might check to see if anyone out there might know of a similar project before I get too far into this. I am pretty terrified of "... Charles Dexter Ward" if for no other reason than its length and span of time. Other "nested" stories like this are also a bit intimidating, thus my reason for asking about other projects.

So if anyone knows anything that might help, please let me know.

I look forward to your results! (and if you need a forum for publishing the timeline I selflessly Wink offer my site.)

I've never seen that done, Bob. It seems like for individual stories people will go back and find out, for example, that there were torrential floods in Vermont in 1925, or whatever, but it doesn't seem to go beyond the explication of the story itself. At least I've never seen it.

Well so far I am cataloging all of this stuff in an Excel spreadsheet, but ultimately, I would like to figure out a way to make it more graphic, like a labeled timeline or something. The only problem I can see, is that there may be too much data for a well done graphic. I will keep hacking away at it and see where it takes me.

Is this intended for a web site or are you thinking poster type thing? This intrigues me, Bob Smiley

I know one of the role-playing game source books has a timeline, but I think it has a lot of stuff from other authors in with it. I'll dig around and see if I can find it.

Ok, well my project is done. Kind of have mixed feelings about that.

both of those are a bit cumbersome to look at. Maybe you could make a more streamline version.
I also noticed they did not include ghost writing and collaborations he did (although the questionable "canon" of those are disputable)

We'll see. At the moment I am a bit disheartened, but then we all know what comes of correlating data. Shocked

Indeed. But go for it if it interests you.

Not only can you include information from the ghost writing and collabs, but you can put it online without a Quicktime soundtrack playing in the background. That would be a big improvement over the existing version.

That which is not Hi-Def can eternal lie, and with strange aeons, even MP3 may die.

Not many people on the internet remember that FLASH is actually a contraction of FUTURE and SPLASH. I think I've correlated enough here. Perhaps too much. Time will tell.
