Dude, I still think Georgia/South Carolina is the only real suggestion here. All the others, based on population, density of fans, ease of access, and good old fashioned logic are just silly. We have cats and free beds. CATS AND FREE BEDS! How can that not trump expensive plane tickets and rigorous travel? Wink

As much as I love cats, I'm allergic to them. Prolonged exposure messes me up. So, sorry, man. Your lure is actually a repellent!

But from a cost stand point, we loose our shirts. Plane tickets most places in the us is around $500. $800 to get me to the US. So if it's not in LA, it's gonna cost us just $1800 to get someplace.

Then there is the cost of the venue, renting equipment, lodging, eating... blah, blah blah. Let's say that's all about $500, conservatively.

So to break EVEN, we would have to make $2,300. So we would have to sell 100 seats at $23 a seat. So getting 100 people to Georgia/South Carolina seems really unlikely.

Also, if we're all going to travel, it has to be a vacation. Because I would have to take my family, Chad his wife and that makes it way more expensive and we'll never make that money back. It has to be worth it to everyone. So where would the HPLLP group like to go? So it's not just me, it's ALL of us.

See the dilemma?

Leeds was just an accident really. Chad was coming for a visit and Andrew was swinging by from Sweden. We just happened to be all together and though, hey! Let's do a show! Not sure if we can just pick a place and do it.

Logistics is a bitch.

I still think Providence, and not entirely for selfish reasons. It's Howie's hometown, and if we're talking vacation, you can do a Lovecraft themed tour of the city. Or something.

Best case scenario, you can work something out with Brown University or the library or something. Which is unlikely at this point now that it's summer.  Smiley But that's why it's "best case."

Of course, if wishes were ponies...

Bronies would be very very very happy.

Ouch. Well, I'll go weep quietly in the corner then... Cry

PS - But seriously, trying to catch lighting in a bottle twice just doesn't happen; Leeds was just a kick-ass thing and should probably not be followed up on, lest it end up like Woodstock 2.

Yeah, I was at Woodstock '94 and it did kinda suck.  I shall forever remember it as "Mudstock."  Though they did have a lot of financial support from Pepsi.  I'm sure Chris and Chad would not say no to sponsorship from Pepsico.  After all, all radio shows in the 1920's-40's had goofy corporate tie-ins.  The Podcraft could benefit from those.

"Boy, the mummy of T’yog seemed pretty well dried out."
"And you know what else is dried out?  My throat."
"Then how about an ice-cold, refreshing bottle of Pepsi Cola.  Nine out of ten doctors agree that Pepsi Cola prevents cancer."

You know, I read that little example in their voices, and it sounded exactly like something that we would hear on the podcast.

But they should advertise with a more eldritch soda, Mountain Dew.  Looks like West's reanimator fluid, kind of acts like it too...

I'm sadly afraid I have re-listened to this podcast too many times.  Funnily enough, there's just not that much broadcast HPL content.

But I ADORE old-time radio.  One of my favorite things is the advertisements and the segues into them.  One of my faves is from Sherlock Holmes:

Dr Watson:  "And we were HOT on the trail of the blackmailer."
Host: "And you know what else is hot, Doctor?  Your furnace stoked by Genuine Blue Coal!"

My wife and I went on a Lovecraftian-themed New England trip with Providence, Boston and Salem on the agenda.  Might've gone up to Marblehead had we been more ambitious but everything worked out as it was.  Maybe my perception of reality is skewed as I live in the DC metro, but going out for eats in Providence was CHEAP!

Now, an advantage of vacationing in the Imperial City is that virtually anywhere you would want to visit is free and Metro will almost certainly get you there.  Baseline costs of food and lodging, however, meh.

What about the Baltimore Comic-Con?  Are we going to see the new graphic novels there?  A live show on Poe's grave might be fun Wink

Yes, ComicCon is always memorial day weekend, isn't it?  Regular as clockwork?  I'm shocked how many of us are in the DC area - truly amazing.  We really must organize some kind of meet-up!  We could do it in true Lovecraft style - walk to an ice cream shop on discount day and stare at each other awkwardly.

Just listened to the live broadcast (and the last of the first chapter of the podcast) today.  Loved the transition from Lovecraft to "2 Gun" Bob Howard!

As mentioned by others, it was Denny O'Neil who introduced Arkham Hospital to Batman, but I found the following revelation in a quote from Bob Rozakis on the DC Wiki:

"Actually, Denny O'Neil introduced the asylum in 1974's BATMAN #258, which established the Joker and Two-Face as residents. Here and in #260, it was referred to as Arkham Hospital, 'a polite name for an asylum which houses the criminally insane.' These early stories also placed the building in Arkham, New England, not Gotham City."

The idea of the Joker in a padded cell in Arkham, MA--listening to interdimensional whispers from beyond our world--is pretty horrific.

I wish the sound quality was better, I'm having a hard time hearing it all :/ It seems like it was such a great experience for everyone. I still want one of those posters!
