I am so psyched! I took a chance to see if my local library has "Tales of the Cthulhu Mythos" and they do! I wouldn't have thought they'd have a book like that but bless 'em, they do! I'll get to read some of the classics I've missed out on, like Bloch's stories that inspired and bookend "The Haunter of the Dark." I can save time by skipping August Derleth's contributions, too. Smiley

"The Return of the Sorcerer" by Clark Ashton Smith

"The Shambler from the Stars" by Robert Bloch
"The Haunter of the Dark" by H. P. Lovecraft

That is a somewhat later edition, but it does have one of the few King stories I enjoy - Jerusalem's Lot.  Tis a Good Un.  Go ahead and read Derleth here and see what you think.  To be fair, these are the BEST mythos stories he ever wrote.  You might like 'em.  If you do, that opens up a helluva lot more mythos reading for you!

My issues with Derleth, I should  point out, are artistic rather than creative.  He had some good ideas, but I deeply dislike his execution of them.  ENJOY and report back!!

I bought that entire book just to get "Notebook Found in a Deserted House". Some of the stories blow goats, and some are great. I will not tell you which ones I liked or hated as I would hate to bias you with my opinion. I do think the book is worth reading. Enjoy.

I'd just like to point out, however, that first editions of this book are quite valuable.  So if you ever run across the Arkham House first run, grab it if it's cheap and pop it up on Abe Books.  You'll be glad you did.

If you come to my house I'll let you look at my copy.  You can look at it, but YOU CAN'T TOUCH IT!!!!!! MUAH! HA HA HA!!!!

I have to keep looking at it...

    "Sticks" by Karl Edward Wagner

Ooh, a personal favorite of mine.

There's a mobi+epub package of this as an ebook floating around the internet... "Sticks" was made into an audiodrama by ZBS, very good in my opinion. And I agree, that's the best Stephen King story right there.

Aw shucks. Well, I'll try to use my powers exclusively for good. It's a great radio/audio drama, one of my favorite. If someone can't afford it or whatever, shoot me a PM, I have a perfectly good lo-fi version I can share.
