Resident Evil has worked though - 4 films, a total of Total of $202,098,407 gross. They may not have been the most artistic pieces of cinema, but they are good for what they are -action-horror-zombie films. (I defend because my wife and I are fans; after getting married, we retired to the honeymoon suite and watched Resident Evil: Apocalypse.) There are some good video game movies, I could name them on my hand though. Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, Silent Hill, Mortal Kombat 1, Prince of Persia was alright. I enjoyed DOA as a mindless hot-girls-in-bikinis beat-em-up. The web-series Mortal Kombat looks pretty awesome. Not to say that Doom was or would be a good movie, but hey, it's the movie business. Universal is the same company that is making a Battleship (based on the Hasbro game) film for $140 million and a Ouija board film as a family-friendly action-adventure ( http://screenrant.com/ouija-board-film-brad-fuller-benk-56553/). EDIT: So long as profit and the Motion Picture Association of America's film-rating system is a part of film making, the big studios will churn out cheap PG-13 crap.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'd be willing to give Doom another shot. Let 'em base it on the story of Doom 3, make it as freaky and heavy-metal-Satanic as they possibly can (instead of the Resident Evil-esque disease route they went with last time), and then give us a badass action guy to spend 90 minutes blowing through demons with a big fuckin' gun.
Surely it can be done. The bare-bones plot of "portal to Hell is opened on a Martian base, big guy has to shoot his way out" is literally made to accommodate lots and lots of horror and gun-shooting action, and that's all the movie needs. They could even bring The Rock back to star in it. Or maybe Henry Rollins.

I don't really think you will ever see the "portal to Hell" thing in a film any lower on the scale than R Rated, especially if there are demons coming out of it (that are called demons). You lose a ton of religious folks when you start talking about Hell/demons, and as a PG-13 movie, you also lose their kids. So I wouldn't hold my breath for ever seeing a DOOM! film that is loyal to the original storyline.

Seeing Henry Rollins with a large plasma cannon blowing away Demons from a Hell Portal would be fun for me, but that's just me...

I'll watch that, but only if the final boss is played by Maynard James Keenan, Rollins' crew is composed of members from Rage Against the Machine, and any authority figures are previous cast members of The Sopranos.

In one of my rants about this I asked " Why are movies like Hulk, Punisher, and Doom getting another bite at the apple? What next? Ghost Rider? How silly would that be! Ha ha ha! I made a funny!"
... They started filming back in November...

has anyone seen Sons of Anarchy season 2? Henry Rollins is a good actor, if the role requires looking at the camera very angry.

This is the preferred acting method for any professional wrestler turned "actor" nowadays. Also, Rollins isn't acting in his case

I can picture the conversation already: "Yeah, lets not film classic literature, that doesn't sell, the people want brainless videogame and comic adaptations, because we tell them to. Yeah."

The only way that classic literature get's made into films is if it is "updated" to have a high-school settings so we can have a bunch of unrealistically sexy but somehow relate-able teens running around. That's it! AtMoM shouldn't be about a scientific exploration to the antarctic and the discovery of primordial race of vegetable monsters, it should be about a high school field trip to the barren wastes of Canada, and the discovery of a race of cute tribble-like creatures!

and the discovery of a race of cute tribble-like creatures! Which then eat the kids' faces... Bob

Love that show. Have seasons one and two on DVD. And Rollins is great, but he has some odd acting choices.
