Well after the disappointment of Toro not directing The Hobbit (2012) he says hes been interested in making a film adaption on the novella "At the Mountains of Madness"

I am so ready for this project to be started! The writer of the article got a few things wrong (I can be nitpicky about Antarctica being "down" not "up" and that "the cthulhu monster" as termed in the article was not part of the story!) but all in all it was great to read.

Yes, my brother disappointedly told me that he would no longer be directing The Hobbit.  I kept my mouth shut because the first thing I started thinking was 'great, now we might be a little closer to At the Mountains of Madness!'

I really hope this film actually happens!

Lets face it. If this movie ever happens its probably going to look like a hybrid of Aliens and The Thing.

Half the book is just about performing autopsies and the other half is people reading.

Great for a book. But you can't make a film entertaining like that.

Expect bad ass marines and an ecological message about the polar ice caps.

I don't know about that. Guillermo del Toro has a unique visual style, especially when it comes to monsters, and he can carry a slow, quiet story relatively well - or at least better than most of his Hollywood brethren. 

But still, this thing has been in the rumor mill for years.  I don't hear that he's found funding for the movie, which is the major holdup, so I'm not holding my breath for this one.

I agree to a certain extent, fubar.  If it were just adpated to film as is, then it could only be justified at maybe a short film type thing.  If we're going full on, decent budget movie, then some liberties would of course need to be taken.  It then goes to how much you trust the people making the changes.  I trust del Toro with this.

del Toro is extremely talented Guy. And if anyone could do decent Lovecraft movie he would be the one.

This could be awesome!  I can't wait to see a live action Shoggoth!

This is my dream movie project, del Toro is the only guy in Hollywood I think could do Lovecraft any justice. I'd love a slow creeping horror film, but as others say it'll probably end up quite action-y in the name of broad appeal.
