I read Derleth's "Whippoorwills in the Hills" today

Good lord I can't believe how embarrassing that was. I'm embarrassed I read it.

When I finished it, I went back, looked at the title of the story, and said ala The Thing "You've got to be f***ing kidding me"

Moving through the Derleth collection, things are getting ... better, if pulpier.

I actually sort of enjoyed "The Seal of Rlyeh"

Just finished ""Tales of the Cthulhu Mythos" and, with the exception of one Robert Block story, (and about half a Stephen King story) they range from stupefyingly dull imitations to embarrassingly cringe-worthy fanfic.

One of the best short story's that touched on every one of his storys was in a SF magazine, the story was called the Golden Keeper.

I highly recommend "The Nightmare Factory", by Thomas Ligotti. Some of the stories are lovecrafitan, some are not, but all of them are superb.

I put this under comics, too, but another recommendation for Alan Moore's "Neonomicon."

I tried my own hand at it, and it was lacking. I'm rewriting it now and hopefully something good will come from the attempt. As for other works, I'm apparently thankfully ignorant of the bad and so also the good out there. Perhaps H.P. would approve of my ignorance of the evils out there; who knows. Tongue

Yeah, HPL was certainly one for embracing blissful ignorance. Way to live up to your hero there, Osyrisdiamond. Wink

Modern Cthulhu Mythos fiction that doesn't suck.... hmmm.

Colin Wilson's Mind Parasites. Except, it sort of sucks. You can check it out at the same nameless ebook site that has Derleth's Mask of Cthulhu.

I'm quite fond of C.J. Henderson's "Free the Old Ones", which I read in the collection Made In Goatswood.  I just adore the twisted concept!
