I downloaded a few comic-related iPhone apps yesterday and when searching through for freebies, came across one called "The Chronicles of Dr. Herbert West" by Zenescope Entertainment. The first issue was free so I grabbed it and it's very very cool! They've made the narrator a woman (West's girlfriend in fact), and gave him a minor back-story, but otherwise, it appears to be sticking very closely to the story, which is cool.

Previous to this, I have also read one called "The Strange Adventures of H.P. Lovecraft", which was ok, but I wouldn't say it was anything special. It's to do with Lovecraft's imagination coming real. Apparently Ron Howard has bought the film rights for it.

Then there's "Fall of Cthulhu", which I grabbed as 5 volumes off Amazon, rather than the single issues, and I really enjoyed. It ties in Nyarlathoptep, Cthulhu, and the Dreamlands, and is well worth the read if you get the chance. The only thing that threw me off was that many of the issues were drawn by different artists, so the style changes throughout, which took some getting used to.

Has anyone read any other good ones?

Dream Quest of Unkown Kadath:
Issues 3-5 have been out of print for years, but one day the author will bind them all in a graphic novel with Strange House in the Mist and another story I cannot recall at the moment. What century this will occure is anyones guess

Here is a  link to my old post regarding the reissue of the old Millenium comics from the 80's.
"Good" is really a matter of opinion. I've never considered any of the Lovecraft comics good,
but they are enjoyable, like Stuart Gordon's Lovecarft movies are enjoyable. Don't expect any
faithful adaptions (even from Alan Moore), but there are some that are just fun to read.

I've just finished issue 3 of the Herbert West comic I mentioned and I would definitely call it "good", and besides the modernizing, it's about as faithful as you could get.

BOOM! Studios (publishers of "Fall of Cthulhu") have just started another Lovecraft-inspired comic. It's called "The Calling"... Check it out!

At the end of one of the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen comic collections, Alan Moore did a Lovecraftian-ish comic where Quatermain actually picks up Randolph Carter (who's a cross between the character & HPL himself). Not a Lovecraft story, but it's got elements.

I have a copy of it in jpgs.  If you PM me I can send it to you in a zip file.
I also can post it on the forums, but I would be worried that it would take up too much space/have a little to much nudity.

How much nudity is too much?

This is Lovecraft though, he did sort of skip the whole naked thing.

Hey, here's a cool link. Its a listing of comics that cover lovecraft themes. Not the actual comics themselves, but a list.
You'll have to do some lovecraftian research to locate the actual issues. And then you'll go mad...

I've read the first chapter and I must say it's looking good. Without giving too much away it starts with a gruesome murder-mystery and a visit to an asylum.

So I tried to upload the Lovecraft edition of Heavy Metal as a zip file onto the forums, but no dice.
I also tried to upload the jpgs strait to the forums, but again, no dice.

So I've started a blog that I will be putting the heavy metal comic on (maybe if there's more content afterwords I'll continue on the blog).

So check out my new blog, A Prairie Horror Companion.  Keep following it as I update it every day with a new page!
