Then there's "Fall of Cthulhu", which I grabbed as 5 volumes off Amazon, rather than the single issues, and I really enjoyed. It ties in Nyarlathoptep, Cthulhu, and the Dreamlands, and is well worth the read if you get the chance. The only thing that threw me off was that many of the issues were drawn by different artists, so the style changes throughout, which took some getting used to.

Seconding the Fall of Cthulhu recommendation. A friend sent me the first bound volume ("Fugue") for my birthday and I bartered a special custom Cthulhu for the next three, which I've just started in on. The style changes would've thrown me a while ago, but having read all the Sandmans I guess I'm used to it now.

I was particularly impressed by the plot of Fugue because it's one of the few Mythos stories which has felt like it works in a modern context. It's not so modern that it loses its roots, but it's not awkward and it's not just "inspired by" either. Definitely not Lovecraft, but very Lovecraftian. Smiley

That is VERY weird. But it looks like it came out in July of 2010. So maybe it hasn't had as much time to percolate into the resale market? Hopefully? I found a $300 edition on half.com.

TransconaSlim - the Heavy Metal reference is terrif.  I remember the Moebius strip from back in the day (where the President of the U.S. hunts a Ktulu... ok?).  Thanks for the month and issue number.  Did you provide a year on that?
Also, not to get off the Cthulhu topic but did everyone else catch the Cthulhu reference in Heavy Metal: The Movie?  During the Denn fantasy sequence both priests are trying to summon Uluhtc (sounding like Oola-Tech).
Lastly, they should be coming out with a more spiritual sequel to Heavy Metal I as opposed to that abortion called FAKK 2.  Cheesy

I never really had any interest in getting Nemesis. It's basically the story of Mr. Arkham's cat :-/

There is a book series called Locke and Key. It is three Trades in right now. The first trade is called Welcome to Lovecraft.  Grin

Necromonicon is a sequel to the trade The Courtyard. That is an awesome story. I can't wait to read Nercomonicon in its completed story.

Steve Niles (30 Days of Night fame) has also wrote some great stories that are very lovecraftian.

Wake the Dead is a reanimator remake for sure. and Freaks of the Heartland seems somewhat Dunwich Horror to me. But with a different twist. Give them both a look see.

Hellboy comics are filled to the brim of Lovecraft goodness, as well as B.P.R.D.

Tales of Cthulhu are great. There are four volumes right now in Trade format. Full of short stories that will creep you out, make you laugh and make you wish there were more.

I don't know why Volume 6 is so expensive, I bought mine at the comic store for cover price. Looking for volume 5 though, would love to know how the madness ends.

Who is the Harlet though? Is she in the lovecraft mythos? I figured out just about everything except her.

Any clues?

Mr. Arkham is not your run-of-the-mill landlord Wink. That cat have some pretty large shoes (paws?) to fill....

I've got to say that this is one of my favorite Lovecraftian comics out there right now, although it gets EXTREMELY graphic in issue #2. I have to say that I like the main character's idea that all of the stuff Lovecraft wrote about was indeed happening around him and he was just getting it down on paper, not that his stories inspired others to act their themes out. Kind of makes you want to just curl up in blissful ignorance for the rest of your life.

So I just read the latest issue of Hellboy that came out about two weeks ago (mine got delayed.. curse you Diamond comics distributors!), the Double Feature of Evil.  The art's by Richard Corben, who's work I adore (he did some smashing adaptations in his HPL Haunt of Horror series, which I highly recommend alongside his Poe stuff).  It's two short stories, and I was wondering if anybody else had read it yet - the first story is very much Mike Mignola's take on the Shunned House in my opinion.  I think perhaps better executed than Lovecraft's version, with a modern spin and a lot less historical dragging-on.

Also I have read the first two issues of Alan Moore's Neonomicon, and before that The Courtyard.  Oh sweet Azathoth.  That's some messed-up stuff.. not that I'd expect anything less from his crazy beardliness and all, but hot damn.  I thought the Courtyard was pretty awesome, and packed to the gills with references to the Mythos, but Neonomicon takes it considerably further and more.. grotesquely graphically.  Not for the faint of heart or the at all squeamish.

Enough rambling, somebody go read the Hellboy Double Feature of Evil and get back to me on that Shunned House comparison!
