Anyone else play?  Heck does anyone else send the cards to the artists to sign?  I do both, I play when I have the chance and when I find contact info on the artists I ask if I can send some cards to them to get signed.  Got several that way and even has a spiffy sketch from one of the artists of Cthulhu on a index card!

I play! Though, I've never done the latter.

Would love to play it, but to find anyone into gaming requires a drive of about a hour or so in any given direction.

I just bought a whole box of the old black bordered cards.  It had a Cthulhu and a Hastur in there!

Of course, in the Living Card game format, the new versions of Cthulhu and Hastur are easier to get.

However, after a long hunt I got two "Assistant to Dr. West"!  Yay!  You still can't get those anywhere else, I believe.

I also have the Core Set, Summons of the Deep, Dreamlands, Yuggoth Contract and Secrets of Arkham.

Play?  Oh no.  Those just go on my shelf next to my original Arkham Horror (original version) and Horror on the Orient Express, Shadows of Yog Sothoth (original).

I'm quite mad you see...

I have avoided card games as I think I would not like Collectable Card Games (CCGs).  I don't like the idea of having to keep buying more and more just to keep up.  I only just recently learned that there are some card games that are stand alone.

Are these "Living" card games really any different than CCGs?

I've found a couple of sites that talk about modifying games to play solitare.  I don't know if they would work with this game.

You still have to essentially collect cards, but the distribution model has been changed.  You start by buying a starter set, which costs about $40 and has enough for two people to play right out of the box with a lot of different deck permutations.  But instead of releasing supplemental cards via 15-ish card booster packs that are entirely random, supplemental cards are released via (now) 60-card "Asylum Packs", which contain 3 each of 20 fixed cards.  So once you buy that Asylum Packs, you don't have to buy it again because you now have all the cards from it and as many copies of each card as you can legally play in any one deck.  Asylum Packs cost around $15 each, but when you consider how many booster packs of a traditional CCG you'd have to buy at $4 each to get a full playset of 20 specific cards, the LCG model looks really good.  The other nice feature is that you can find out exactly what's in each Asylum Pack, so you can just buy the packs with the cards that interest you most, and avoid the ones you don't want.

I don't actually play the game, I just learned all this doing some research, so anyone who actually plays can feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.  I'd like to get into it casually once I find someone else that wants to play!
