Lovecraftian Film

Combs has been in so many movies, and in fact is almost a poster boy for Lovecraft films (as Herbert West, Wilbur Whateley, and more minor roles in such films as "The Lurking Fear"), that it's easy to forget he's actually a good actor - that's one reason I was really impressed by Castle Freak.

Combs was also a complete weirdo in The Frighteners, couldn't jazz up feardotcom, and super nasty in the remake of House on Haunted Hill.

But the first place I ever saw him (that i recall) was the movie "Doctor Mordrid" (basically a doctor strange ripoff from Full Moon), where he was the hero, and yet, I still thought "Hmm...  he's kinda cute, but there's something creepy about him..."  Next thing I saw him in was an episode of Freddie's Nightmares, where he was a complete psycho - so I guess i spotted THAT.

I Know this is a bit off topic (oooo, big surprise there, Bob) but I loved Jeffery Combes as The Question in the animated show, Justice League Unlimited. He has, hands down, the best lines in the show. Period. There is a fantastic scene where he is being tortured on a typical electrocuting table thing, and the torturer is asking him, "What do you know" (or some similar cliche' question) and The Question keeps telling him random conspiracy theory gibberish, the best of which is "The plastic tips at the ends of shoe laces are called aglets. Their true purpose is sinister."

To me, THAT could almost be something Lovecraft came up with (i.e. a simple, every-day object with a dark purpose) if it weren't so silly.

But you go too far and get a haunted laundry machine like Stephen King's The Mangler.  I can't help i9t - I just picture a lot of tequila shots and the slurred phrase  "go on!  I can make ANY damn THING scary - pick something!!!"  being involved.

Yeah, that was an episode called "Grudge Match". Huntress was calling him to complain about things and get a bit of advice, but he was on the case and wasn't paying much attention. Then there was a very awkward phone sex scene that lasted all of 10 seconds. Great episode, and great lines from The Question.

I think he talks about flouride being used to track people, too, didn't he? Something like that

Yeah, topically applied fluoride does not render the population docile, but it DOES render them traceable by spy satellite. If you track down the episode (I believe it is "Flashpoint") you can see the entire interrogation, although it only lasts a minute or so.

Which leads me to believe that Jeffrie Coombs, not Jackie Hayley (who did a good job, mind you) should have played Rorschach

I don't know, Eric Lofgren, I don' think Combes has the internal rage needed to play Rorschach. That's just one man's opinion, but I really think Jackie Hayley was the perfect choice for that character. That having been said, I would love to see a Question series out there somewhere, even if it were a self-contained miniseries or even a one-time animated movie.
