I had read this quite a while back, before reading any of the 'Laundry' stories and reconciled it my mind as a Bob Howard adventure. It wasn't till I re-read again (and again..) that I realized it wasn't set in that universe. At any rate, I think this is one of my favourite Lovecraft tributes ever. The tone and sparse style Stross uses is brilliant in it. And if anyone hasn't read it before, you can check it out here-  http://www.infinityplus.co.uk/stories/colderwar.htm

Just out of curiousity, has anyone read this yet? and if so, what were your thoughts on it?

On a side note, what do you think of Stross' Laundry series? For those that aren't aware, they are a series of stories set around a fictional British agency, referred to as the Laundry, that deals with all manner of horrors as well as the Mythos kind, that are constantly at our 'doorstep', clamouring to get in. The stories are told from the perspective of one of the Laundry's agents, called Bob Howard, who is really more of a desk jockey than anything. Especially since so much accounting and bookwork is required for each mission Smiley

I read "A Colder War" a couple years ago and was mightily impressed. I really should look at Stross' other stuff.
