Fan-fhtagn-tastic: GROTESQUE WOODCHUCK "In February the McGregor boys from Meadow Hill were out shooting woodchucks, and not far from the Gardner place bagged a very peculiar specimen. The proportions of its body seemed slightly altered in a queer way impossible to describe, while its face had taken on an expression which no one ever saw in a woodchuck before. The boys were genuinely frightened, and threw the thing away at once, so that only their grotesque tales of it ever reached the people of the countryside." -H.P. Lovecraft, The Colour Out Of Space It's really the minor monsters that make this such a great project. There are a million renditions of Cthulhu and the Deep Ones out there, but this is the first time I've ever seen anyone take a stab at the infamous mutant woodchuck.

Speaking of The Colour, are you going to do any of the family members who were mutated and driven mad by The Colour?

I wasn't sure if I should do them and the living mummies from Out Of the Aeons because they're not really creatures as much as they are dying humans in various forms....what do you think?

I understand what you mean in they they strictly wouldn't belong in a Bestiary but still I'd love to see them. Eventually when the Bestiary is finished I'd love to see your take on some of the characters (and even Locations too).

How about adding an appendix to the bestiary for victims/cultists/etc.? Possibly one for locations as well.

Yeah an appendix might help. I think everything so far is a creature, Great Old One or Outer God/Great Old One, but I was thinking about adding Gods In Human Form (Nyarlathotep's human form, Hastur's human form, Lilith and Astaroth {Horror at Red Hook} etc) and maybe Altered Humans? that would cover Living Mummies, Innsmouth Hybrids, Cultists and Crumbling Humans.....
I have actually thought about doing specific characters but I think I would want to do full on illustrations of them in settings, not just bestiary pics with white backgrounds.

I like Bob's idea of appendix, the twisted portion of my mind would love to see your version of some of the human victims. I wish I had some artistic talent, I would love to create an image of The Temple with a skeleton of the sub captain in an old mariner's diving suit floating in front of it.

ok, Living Mummies, Innsmouth Hybrids, Cultists and Crumbling Humans have all been added to the list. it may take a while to get to them since I have a list of about 40 creatures waiting to be drawn...but it'll happen

Do you really need to do Cultists? To my mind, they would just be normal shmucks with wildly different cultist outfits depending on who, or what, formed the cult and just who, or what, they were worshiping at the moment.

Bob
but the way the cultists are described in the stories is that they are always degenerated somehow, or some "evil" mixed race. I think it would be interesting to do that. There's allot of good cultist description in Innsmouth.

I don't know, I think trying to draw Lovecraft's cultists as described in the stories would just turn into a bunch of racist caricatures.

Yep, I have to agree. However, the Innsomouth folks might be interesting to see, since they are all hybrids of one degree or other. Oh, and if you do draw these guys, Lechance, name one of them Bob, will you? Bob
