Does anyone know anything about this movie?

http://www.dontbeafraidofthedark.com/

It's supposed to be a remake of a made-for-TV movie from the 70s, and seems heavily inspired by Rats in the Walls. Instead of a grown man who faints and screams like a little girl, they've made the protagonist an actual little girl, which is nice.

I know that there is a companion book out for the film that chronicles the experiences of someone who has gone through what the characters in the movie have gone through. There are also sections of extensive notes concerning all manner of supernatural menaces complete with sketches and the like. I have not had a chance to read it yet, but I have it on my book shelf.

I want to see it, too, but I think I will wait for the DVD.

I saw this movie tonight, and while I have to admit I found it pretty mediocre, there are some nice little shout-outs to weird fiction.

Without giving too much away... *MILD, MILD, SPOILERS*

The entire movie is a loose adaptation of some of the themes found in Arthur Machen, going as far as to specifically reference him.

Well that's pretty cool. You may have just convinced me to see it.

From this interview with Del Toro:
http://www.aintitcool.com/node/50956

"I thought they came out really great. In an oblique way, I set up the movie in Lovecraft territory, because I think in an oblique way the characters are also an homage to “Dreams in the Witch House”, a short story by Lovecraft that has a character who has the body of a rat and the face of a man. There’s this little character called Brown Jenkins, who is really, really creepy."
