I enjoyed this podcast, but I am surprised that you did not mention what surely was the greatest achievement of Lin Carter’s life: His stint as editor of Ballantine Books Adult Fantasy series from 1969 to 1974. Ballantine, the authorized publisher of Tolkien’s works in the United States, was pleased with the success of “The Hobbit” and “Lord of the Rings” in the 1960s. So the company decided to underwrite a series reviving other “lost” works of “high fantasy” and Carter was chosen as the editor. His taste in fantastic literature was excellent and introduced myself and many others to world of writers beyond Tolkien and C.S. Lewis, such as Lord Dunsany, Mervyn Peake, E.R. Eddison, Hope Mirlees, William Morris, Peter S. Beagle, James Branch Cabell, Goerge McDonald, and, yes, even H.P. Lovecraft and Clark Ashton Smith.
