Episode 339 – The October Game
The second quarter of Games Month kicks off with The October Game by Ray Bradbury!
Special thanks to our reader, Lance Holt! Glad to have ya back!
That opening music excerpt is from Halloween Macabre on Golden Records Spooky Halloween Hits.
Don’t forget to tune into Lackey’s other podcast, Rachel Watches Star Trek!
Two stories next week: The Three Sailors’ Gambit by Dunsany and The Riddle by Walter de la Mare!
Here’s my vote for the the less violent, more psychological take on the ending, Even E.C. left it ambiguous in its adaptation. A reakky good audio reading: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=owjA3O-liS0
As always, thanks!
First… I noticed you got rid of the forum! It’s a shame but it’s tough keeping those active.
With the story, one thing I was waiting to see if you thought the same as me is how they conceived the child. He said he “forced” it upon Louise. Do you think Bradbury is implying he raped her?? The amount of hate she seemed to have for him would make more sense than the fact that he just made her have a child. And since you guys said Bradbury felt his older writing was more violent would add to that theory.
