I made the mistake of listening to this one before I went to sleep, or attempted to go to sleep as it turned out. It wasn’t just the horrific nature of the story. It was also the questions that it raised, as discussed on the show.

I’m starting to miss the comfortable pipe and slippers charm of gibbering horrors from beyond the void. At least Cthulhu never wanted to cuddle afterwards.

True. Cthulhu doesn’t spend a lot of time playing with his food in The Call of Cthulhu. Once he has his paws on it, he eats it. Still, the story could have started with “The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is Cthulhu never embraces his food before or after the munching part.”

I read this years ago and it really stuck with me. I swear I read a sequel to it years ago in Isaac Asimov’s Science Fiction magazine, but google refutes this. But it was about a big alien with a young host, and there were other aliens involved, and it had a very similar vibe. I remember the art too, depicting the centipede-like alien protecting the child from another alien by extending multiple needle-like claws from her dozens of fingers. I even drew the character myself a few times, as I recall.

If you know at least year or how that cover looked, it should be possible to find it. There might be some issues scanned in JPEG or as PDF, if they did no used software for text recognition and just put pictures in PDF, it’s quiet common in amateurish digitalization or it was done years ago and description of file is not concrete enough no search engine could find it.

As well it might not be directly from Ms. Butler, but it might be some sort of fanfiction as well thus looking it up as sequel or under her name might not work.

well this might help: Due some issues with certificates it shows something like untrusted connection, you have to agree to continue. It should be some issue after June 1984

Or it could be another Mandela Effect.
