“Lich” or “lych” is an old english word for a corpse, but it became a standard term in the sword-and-sorcerery fiction that D&D was based on. Gygax specifically called out his inspiration as the short story “The Sword and the Sorcerer” by Gardner Fox (co-creator of The Flash, among other DC heroes).
Clark Ashton Smith used the term Lich in “Empire of the Necromancers” (Weird Tales, September 1932). It’s an old English word that means corpse. The gates at old cemeteries where corpses were brought in were referred to as Lich Gates.
Chad and Chris, Your schtick and your insights continually enamor me. Your humor is intellectual while being easily consumed. It is not cruel, nor does it sink in over-reaching puns. Along with your successful running gags in this episode, you impressed me with your constantly great production value. Man, this is the first time I’ve learned of Sticks, and it quickly doled out heebie-jeebies that prompted vocalizations from within me. I absolutely adore the two of you gentlemen.
